scapula question
David Peters wrote:
On various lizard skeletons you see what appears to be a "second story"
addition to the scapula. Now is this a less-ossified portion of the
original scapula? Or is it a novel extension of the the original scapula?
And finally, do we see it anywhere else but among the squamates?
A suprascapula has been reported for the hypsilophodont-grade ornithopod
_Parksosaurus_. This element is ossified and separate from the scapula.
According to Jain and Bandyopadhay (1997), _Antarctosaurus septentrionalis_
also has a suprascapula. In this case, this element is said to be
coossified with the scapula, and gives the impression that the scapula is
longer than it actually is.
