Do you mean surface area ? There was a publication about surface area 
estimation of Indian elephants. It got an Ig-Nobel prize. 

Dr. K P. Sreekumar's paper "Estimation of the Total Surface Area in 
Indian Elephants" can be found in the 1990 issue of Veterinary Research 
Communications.
