Re: grant for antonio
I respect your opinion. Please do not take the following as a flame.
Now I am done. I have been written to by several list members who want
me to be more aggressive (as they are disappointed that more have not
contributed) and some have written me to be MUCH MORE aggressive in my
requests. Now I have offended you and perhaps others by being TOO
aggressive. I give up and will send what I have to Fabio in two weeks
after the next round of donations come in the mail. I will offend no
more with my (I though obvious) tongue and cheek attempts at a guilt
trip. The whole concept was for as many as possible to give as little
as possible to make a good thing come true. It is unfortunate that
something was lost in the translation.
You (or anybody else) of course are or never have been under ANY
obligation for any monetary contribution as should be quite obvious.
Of course, this is similar in principle to the people who complain
about what is on TV. My response, change the channel if you don't like
the show. For those of you that are tuned in and interested, you have
my address for last chance to donate to the fund.
Having said that, I am sorry I offended anyone. I will not organize
such an attempt again to avoid hurting anyones feelings as no good
deed........... I of course have nothing better to do than organizing
this fund raiser, living on a working cattle ranch, in the late spring,
covered in Hell Creek Formation.
I will send a final accounting to the list in 10 day to allow a
complete mail cycle. You can't please all of the people all of the
time not even by promoting dinosaur science.

Mr. Bliss,
while I applaud your efforts in trying to get enough money together to
help Fabio do some research on an animal, I think it quite
innapropriate of you to send weekly guilt trips out to people, via the
DML, concerning who hasn't sent you any money.
I did not think that there was any financial obligation on my part to
be part of this list, yet on an almost weekly basis I am made to think
that there is. You may want to choose your words more carefully, and
omit the "you that haven't sent me any money know who you are" part of
your updates.
Tell me what obligation I have to send you any money to give to Fabio?
None, as far as I am aware. Not that it is any of your concern, but I
donate thousands of dollars a year worth of time, specimens, etc. to
various reserachers and such- including holotype specimens. I don't
feel the need to finance what the Italian government should be
financing. I find it strange that there are a whole league of Italian
reserachers out there who are fully able to do reasearch without
seeking $5.00-10.00 donations from an email group.
As I said, I complete applaud your efforts.....I just don't appreciate
your insinuation that EVERYONE should donate money to this. To try to
make people people feel guilty because they choose not to donate- for
whatever reasons they have- is rude. You can send your email updates
out very easily without the added guilt-trip.
Cn you see my point?
Michael

Ok DML'ers. Those of you that have not donated to the grant to study
(you know who you are!) the important basal Hadrosaur "Antonio" are
supposed to be feeling guilty by now. There have been 25 total
donors from the DML list to the fund totaling around 700 bucks US.
We need an additional 300 dollars to make our $1000.00 goal. (The
grant request of $950 and a $50 bank transfer fee.) Even if you only
send 5 dollars, you will help fund this important research which is
going to be sponsored by the membership of the DML. Send and make
your check to: Frank Bliss, 1107 Parks Rd. Weston, Wyoming 82731.
I am collecting the funds and will get them to Fabio Marco Dalla
Vecchia (the Italian Paleontologist that will do the dirty work on
Antonio). For those of you that don't know, the grant request for
this study was turned down (for some silly reason or other) and some
of the membership of the DML have consented to fund the study. The
question is, why hasn't everyone that subscribes to the DML sent me 5
bucks (or more) to finish this grant out. Pry open your checkbooks
and let's get Fabio some gas money to finish the job. PDF's of the
final paper will be available to the donors. Thank you to those of
you that have already donated to this worthy study.
Sincerely
