Sure, i agree with this (Personally) in a
modern/cultural sense, but scientifically, wheather
it's `sick' or not is irrelevant.
I'm sure it was forwarded as only just an
idea/hypothesis (for a mechanism of population
distribution.  How likely/farfeetched this idea may be
