Or just soft-shelled eggs. There are no fossil non-gecko lizard/snake eggs
(except for Miocene or younger endocasts... if it's true), and no fossil
mammal eggs (remember: normal mammals, like monotremes, lay eggs -- it's
just that the abnormal marsupials and placentals have taken over the world
lately), because their shells don't contain minerals.
Cloning is somewhat unlikely. :-)
