HEADLINES for the scientifically literate
Hello, all:
If more of the people in the US were scientifically literate, I would send
this to Jay Leno's HEADLINES segment on the Tonight Show. Since that is
not the case and since this is the only group I have contact with that can
appreciate this boo-boo, I am pleased to present the following excerpt from
a recent edition of the magazine Louisiana Cultural Vistas:
"Domesticated pigs date back 23 million years to the Miocene epoch in
present-day Kazakhstan.
At that time, there were three major varieties of domestic swine on the
planet: the Asiatic, the Neapolitan, and the Celtic. As soon as nomadic
tribes began to make contact, pigs cross-bred with one another and with
wild boars, to create thousands of hog breeds."
Imagine. In the Miocene.
