Burpee Paleofest

Just got back from Rockford, IL, USA where I attended this year's
Paleofest. Unfortunately I did not get to see all of the speakers, but I
enjoyed R.T. Bakker's rapport with his audience, Paul Mackovicky's talk
on dromaeosaurus and ornithomimosaurs, and Mark Sutton's work on
reconstructing thin slices of 3D Silurian 'bugs' and 'worms'. He
color-coded the many leg segments to make sense of the chaos, and it
worked great. Luis Chiappe was the keynote speaker Saturday night and
gave a great narrative on the fields of sauropod eggs he's been finding
on the Pampas.

While hanging out I had the great pleasure to meet DMLers Mike Hanson
and Steve Brusette, who will both undoubtedly head major museums some
day.

For any professionals approached to speak at the Burpee Museum Paleofest
in upcoming years, I heartily endorse the experience. Mike Henderson and
his team were first-rate hosts and they have a great program going
there.
