what if it was the triceratops attacking the rex? Like some modern grazers,
herding or not, like bulls and relatives, some of which are quite irritable and
charge anything they see moving around (and like rhinos, for that matter)?
There wouldn't be a loss of energy for food from the rex, just trying to avoid
a dangerous weapon. There were at that time a lot of animals that presented
less danger for a predator (hadrosaurs,eg)
