Sorry, I should have been more clear. In this matter I was referring to the
BMNH exhibition specifically, which does present the argument in a
"either/or" fashion (until the end when "both" appears as an apparent
afterthought).
The reference to the "either/or" mentality in palaeontology was more
generalised.
