new ref: Heptasteornis ... the first alvarezsaurid from Europe
Naish, D. & Dyke, G.J. 2004. Heptasteornis was no ornithominid, troodontid,
dromaeosaurid or owl: the first alvarezsaurid (Dinosauria: Theropoda) from
Europe. Neues Jahrbuch für Geologie und Paläontologie, Monatshefte, 2004(7),
385-401.
Note that this article was entitled "The identity of the enigmatic Late
Cretaceous Romanian taxa Heptasteornis andrewsi and Elopteryx nopscai" in
Darren´s website: http://web.port.ac.uk/departments/sees/staff/NaishD.htm
Following the authors:
- the holotype of Heptasteornis andrewsi (distal tibiotarsus BMNH A4359) is
interpreted as an Alvarezsauridae (Mononykinae?), but is regarded as a nomen
dubium,
- the holotype of Bradycneme draculae (distal tibiotarsus BMNH A1588) is
regarded as a Maniraptora indet., and
- the holotype of Elopteyx nopscai (proximal femur BMNH A1234) is interpreted
as either a trodontid or a non-ornithuromorphan pygostilian and not a
dromaeosaurid.
