Triceratops maximus
When I worked with Bakker in Maximum Triceratops I tried to illustrate
his ideas and his arguments the best I could. One of the most
controversial illustrations was (for me) tying two African elephants
together to make for the weight of Triceratops maximus. I can't
believe it could have been that heavy.
Dr. Bob wanted to emphasize a point. He knows how to be persuasive
and eloquent. He may be proven wrong sometimes, but until his
speculations can also be quite believable.
What he didn't exaggerate was the overall size the animal and specially
the size of the skull. I HAVE seen a Triceratops (I think it was
horridus) skull the size of a Torosaurus' or even slightly bigger
(about three meters long) sitting quietly on a shelf in a a warehouse
of a museum in Utah (Provo I think it was).
It wasn't even on display. The frill may not have been as long but the
the overall appearance of the skull was much more massive.
