Monsters real and not

Although the Discovery Channel program on the Loch Ness monster made some
scientific boo-boos, in the end it was pretty good because it firmly concluded
that there in no strange creature in the lake and explained why. One reason is
because if there was some mammal or reptile in the loch they would have to
frequently surface to breath and therefore would be obvious to all. Indeed if
they
are primitive whales as some argue they would have been hunted out long ago.
Even reptiles would have to surface often because in order to remain
reasonably warm in cold water they would have to be very active like
leatherbacks.

Concerning marine reptiles breathing, the tiny nosed plesiosaurs did not
breath through the nostrils. Penquins and cormorants have nearly or entirely
closed nostrils and breath through their mouths.
