Unless they had ovipositors, or rubbery egg shells (which they didn't),
then they would have to at least been able to squat to lay eggs. Unless
live birth was an option - though why a species would evolve live birth
but retain extremely small offspring (constrained by the size of the
pubic opening) is beyond me.
