Re: Knight Tour

Dear Dan,

I'm sorry, I didn't get back with you about your suggestion of honorary
membership for Jay Matternes as our Paleoartist Society's first act. I think
this
is an excellent idea, as Jay for many of us is one of the most accompished,
painstaking and accurate people in our field. Way back in `67 I first saw his
land mammal dioramas reprinted in Time-Life Nature Library's North America, and
I
flipped--these were the most beautifully done paleomammals I'd ever seen, and
these works started the "fire in my belly" to want to do what he did. Since
you alerted us to his site a couple of months ago I think many Listers who may
have been unfamiliar with him have now had the chance to appreciate his work.
This would be a very timely and appropriate act for our new society, and we
should make it one of the first items of business when we meet in Denver.
