Oh, wow.
However, a is the SI symbol for year... and :-) over here, I don't see why I
should be bound by a North American affair that is in addition tailored to
the English language.

Without "ago"? ~:-| I've seen that, too, but I thought those authors were
"just" dropping the y of "mya" for "million years ago".
