Weak necks?

I was flipping through channels, and of course paused at the Discovery
Channel. They were having a special about "Nessie" (I know, I know). Anyway,
point of this message: a man (not identified) stated that because
plesiosaurs had short neck vertebrae, their necks were very flimsy, and
couldn't have supported their head if they tried to lift it out of the
water.
I had never heard this before, but I had heard about the potential for poor
mobility in plesiosaur necks. I was wondering if someone could comment on
this...it rankled me, because obviously a plesiosaur would need to
breathe...
Peace,
Rob
