Interesting, because I've almost always seen the latter...

That's inapplicable, because Carnegie isn't Latin and can't be treated as a
Latin word. A Latin word just can't end in -ie. AFAIK the current version of
the ICZN would even mandate *carnegiei* if the name were coined now.
