PLoS: CALL FOR PAPERS!

Dear colleagues and PLoS supporters,

PLoS Biology has been accepting submissions for the past two weeks, and we 
have
a number of promising manuscripts in the system. Such early high-quality
submissions are crucial to the success of the journal and our larger goal of
changing the publishing system, and we need to keep up the momentum. If you 
have
an important manuscript, please submit it to PLoS Biology right now and
encourage your colleagues and friends to do the same. We are keen to talk to
PIs, students, and postdocs about the benefits of open access and why 
submission
to PLoS is the right thing to do for science and their careers.

Support for PLoS Biology is growing, but we realize the need for a concerted
marketing effort over the next months. We planned to announce our call for
papers in Nature and Science, but they refused to accept advertising from a
competitor. Rebuffed but flattered, we have concentrated on a more 
grass-roots
campaign, which depends on your help. We have a number of cool posters in 
the
PLoS portrait gallery http://www.plos.org/posters.html. Please post your
favorites together with the Call for Papers at high-traffic areas in your
institution, and e-mail them to friends in other departments, cities, and
countries. If we don't have your image yet for the large mosaic poster of 
PLoS
supporters, please send it soon.

Additional marketing material is in the works, including pamphlets and 
larger
posters that many of you have requested; we will let you know when it is
available.
