IMVHO, could it be possible that this critter were non volant (like some
feathered dino-birds or somewhat extant winged birds, like hens)? Maybe a
swimmer (though I cannot think of a usefullness of such a structure in water).
I can't imagine the resistance to air (in French it's "trainée", methinks, but
I can't get hold on the English word) that such a structure can make, but it is
surely not negligible. Is it ossified? If so it must have been rigid. Kind of
puzzling if you try to figure it flying or even gliding.
