D. peiganus etymology

The species name comes from the Peigan Indian tribe (also spelled Piegan)  
who lived in the region of Montana where the fossil teeth were found,
combined with the Latin ending -us, or maybe by contraction with the Latin
masculine ending -anus "belonging to," dropping the redundant "an."
