plesiosaur quote: who said it?

A fun and oft-used quote refers to the plesiosaur as
resembling a snake threaded through the
body/trunk/shell of a turtle. However, the origin of
this quote seems confusing:

For example, M. Everhart makes the following
observation on his website
(http://www.oceansofkansas.com/rep-refs.html):

"Owen, R. 1860... Note on Page 230, Owen refers to the
illustrations of popular writers comparing a
plesiosaur to "a snake threaded through through the
trunk of a turtle")"

However, a passage from Williston's (c.1914) 'Water
reptiles of the past and present' reads:

"It was Dean Buckland who facetiously likened the
plesiosaurs to a snake threaded through the shell of a
turtle...".

Unfortunately no reference is given therein.

I would just like to confirm the true origin of this
quote; can any body help?

Cheers,
Adam S. Smith,
Bristol
