Comparative anatomy refs
A quick question: I'm after recommendations for good vert palaeo related
anatomy references.
Apart from Romer, of course, my favourite is a much loved old copy of Edwin
Goodrich's 1930 edition of "Studies on the Structure & Development of
Vertebrates" (I've just sent it to get re-bound). The reasons I like it are
that the illustrations are excellent, he includes a great deal of info on
the embrology and development of the osteology in addition to adult
morphology, and the old style prose. However he doesn't cover the
musculature at all (although he does do the circulatory and nervous systems,
for example).
Assuming that the important points about the embryology have not been
superseeded since 1930 (??), what I'm really interested in is something that
covers the osteology together with the myology and arthrology, preferably
with a major focus on extant forms but some inclusion of extinct ones for
comparision/completeness.
Anyone got any favourites?
A quick look around Amazon suggests that Kardong might be worth a go, but
one reviewer had reservations on the chapter on muscles. Is that a fair
comment?
Thanks in advance
