Upcoming New Dinosaur Book
Hey all,
I just wanted to pass along a brief announcement that Allen Debus' new book
Dinosaur Memories is about to be published by iuniverse.com. A description of
the book can be found at:
http://www.iuniverse.com/bookstore/book_detail.asp?isbn=0%2D595%2D22988%2D3
This volume is basically a compilation of many of Allen's unique essays, which
have appeared in various publications (Fossil News, Prehistoric Times, Dinosaur
World, etc.) over the years. Many of these essays deal with dinosaur art,
especially the history of the genre. Various essays also focus on different
dinosaur and fossil destinations, "paleo people," and Allen's unique
experiences in the field of dinosaurology.
Allen's first book, Paleoimagery: The Evolution of Dinosaurs in Art, was
originally slated for release by McFarland (the publisher of Glut's
encyclopedias) in May, but it has been pushed back a few months. This book has
already been mentioned onlist, and I will try to remember to let you all know
when it is finally published.
On another book note, I've recently begun (and nearly finished) Gaining Ground,
the latest title in Jim Farlow's excellent IU Press series. This is probably
my favorite book in the series thus far. Jenny Clack does a real nice job of
explaining the "fish"-tetrapod transition, and her descriptions of various
early tetrapod groups (temnospondyls, anthracosaurs, etc.) are very interesting
and informative. It is most definitely the benchmark semi-technical popular
work on early tetrapods!
