Yes, it seems as though once there is a 'crack in the paleo-perceptual
egg' (i.e., the first example is found and becomes known), eyes, minds, and
perceptions open up, worldwide, and discoveries start popping up as might a
newly planted crop!
It may be of interest to note that this phenomenon occurs at the
individual level, too. For example, once I recognize a new (at least to me)
type of track in the Early Cretaceous of Maryland, I often start finding
them widely, even in places I had formerly looked and perceived no such
thing.
The same thing is well known among 'birders'. Sometimes, for decades a
birder has wanted to see a certain rare bird, but once it is seen, that same
birder starts noticing that the rare bird is not so rare.
