Yeah, it does seem a little weird; however, the fact remains that Afrotheria
(to the best of my knowledge, a clade based solely on genes, not fossils)
contains a number of groups (aardvarks, tenrecs, golden moles, elephant shrews)
that have apparently always been restricted to Africa.
