Subject: New Papers

Gentlemen -

I don't know if you're already aware of these new papers (and taxa) or
not, but I thought I'd let you know for your respective taxon lists:

Wilson, J.A., Malkani, M.S., and Gingerich, P.D. 2001. New crocodyliform
(Reptilia, Mesoeucrocodylia) from the Upper Cretaceous Pab Formation of
Vitakri, Balochistan (Pakistan). Contributions from the Museum of
Paleontology, University of Michigan 30(12): 321-336.

Describes a new baurusuchid, _Pabwehshi pakistanensis_. (The genus
name is from "Pab," the formation, and "Wehshi," the Urdu word for "beast.")
Material is the rostral ends of a snout and mandible.

Lambert, O., Godefroit, P., Li, H., Shang, C.-Y., and Dong, Z.-M. 2001. A
new species of _Protoceratops_ (Dinosauria, Neoceratopsia) from the Late
Cretaceous of Inner Mongolia (P.R. China). Bulletin de l'Institut Royal des
Sciences Naturelles de Belgique, Sciences de la Terre 71-Supp.: 5-28.

Based on numerous specimens from Bayan Mandahu in a growth series,
describes _Protoceratops hellenikorhinus_, which is a very weird
protoceratopsian! It is larger than _P. andrewsi_, the frill has a
chevron-shaped distal margin, kind of like a lot of chasmosaurines (but not
quite as pronounced -- in dorsal view, in fact, the skull is superficially a
_lot_ like many chasmosaurines!), the jugal horn is absolutely enormous,
though more of a tongue-shaped thing that a real, pointed "horn," males have
a more pronounced nasal horn, which in the figured (holotype) specimen (a
complete skull), is split into two small side-by-side horns (!), and the
palpebral sticks up well above the eye and just behind the nasal horn.

Since I'm no longer subscribed to the list, you may pass this info on
if you like.
