Spinosaurids are near certainly tetanurines, as found by Holtz (2000, 2001),
Rauhut (2000), Sereno et al. (1998), etc.. The main resemblence cited
between coelophysoids sesu lato and spinosaurids was the subnarial gap.
This structure is actually differently formed in coelophysoids sensu stricto
and Dilophosaurus, with the latter having a more similar construction to
spinosaurids. The other characters Paul mentions are best seen as parallels
with Dilophosaurus (posteriorly positioned external nares) or primitive
(long, primitive presacral centra; shallow rib cage).
