I'd say conical teeth are better for lateral stresses than laterally
flattened teeth, aren't they?

Whoops! I wasn't clear! I mean lateral in relation to the direction of the vertical. So laterally flattened teeth would be distinctly stronger one direction then conical teeth along their "deep end". I should have just used "backwards" forces (sounds balky), anybody has a better term to describe the idea? I have it in mind but is unable to spin it out clearly on paper.
