In response to your query regarding alternate functions for ceratopsian
neck frills, back in Mexico City for SVP 2000, John Anton presented an
intriguing paper on ceratopsian neck frills and their use as an auditory
enhancement. I don't know whether there was further work done but you can
check out the abstract in that SVP Bulletin.
