Off-List: Punctuated Equilibrium

Dear DMLers,

I don't know much about the Punctuated Equilibrium theory, but the
obvious question to ask about it seems to be: isn't it just an
artifact of poor fossil sampling? So I'd like to read up a bit on
that.

Now I'm sure this has been discussed a thousand times, both on-list
and in print, so I DO NOT WANT TO START ANOTHER DISCUSSION, but if
anyone could privately send me a reference or two -- preferably to
"popular" books rather than scholarly articles -- I'd be much obliged.
I will briefly summarise to the list. Please DO NOT POST your replies
to the list unless you have brand new light to shed on this issue.

Thanks in advance.
