RE: Shuvuuia deserti has 3 fingers and long tail
This was presented as a poster at last year's SVP in Bozeman. Its really
not that suprising to me, as its a more major step to actually loose digits
altogether. It still seems to me that there is only one functional digit.
BTW, whats the latest info on the phylogenetic placement of alvarezsaurids?
I've heard that consensus is trending towards that they are the sister group
to ornithomimosaurs. Where have Norell, Clark, Makovicky et al's recent
trees placed them?

Subject: Shuvuuia deserti has 3 fingers and long tail
The Hayashihara natural science museum announced that they
found 3 fingers and long tail(35 caudal) of Shuvuuia.

The first in the world.
The existence of a lot of tail vertebras and three fingers is
confirmed to Mononics.
The dinosaur theory is strengthened by the discussion of the dinosaur
or the bird.
Hayashihara Ltd.
The Hayashihara natural science museum (The headquarters:1-2-3 Okayama City
Simoishii superintendents:Kenichi Ishii) this time is Hayashihara-Mongolian,
joint investigation corps. - It was confirmed that the fossil which one had
collected in Mongolian country Gobi in 1998 was an extremely valuable
academically specimen.
This fossil is a whole body frame of Shubuia which belongs to Mononics, and
about 70% of the whole body is preserved. The tail which became complete
almost completely in that and three fingers were associated and the right
hand part was included. Mononics : in the feature with the maximum one big
finger in the hand as shown by the name Mononics "One fingernail". Only one
finger of the hand had been found up to now. In finding the fossil with
three numbers of Mononics kind of fingers, this time is the first time.
Moreover, the number of tail vertebras found this time was confirmed it was
35 pieces more than ten Mononics kind of numbers or more which had been
found up to now, and the Mononics kind of tail was long. Mononics : in the
kind to which the discussion of the bird or the dinosaur is performed after
the naming in 1993. The dinosaur theory is a main current but it has not
arrived yet at the conclusion now.
It can be said that this new finding is the one to support the theory that
Mononics are dinosaurs and is academically meaningful.
The Hayashihara natural science museum advances the investigation of
paleontology and geology in Mongolian country Gobi more than 1993 in
cooperation with the Mongolian science academy paleontology center (Center
head Ulan Bator of a Mongolian country:Dr. Cheung Barsbold of phosphorus).
As a result of a joint research with the researcher in the United States, it
turned out that the fossil which had been found with fossil home
Tsgrikinshire in the July, 1998 which fell on in the year sixth of a local
investigation was extremely important academically.
Almost 70 the % of the whole body remains in the found individual. It has
been understood that they are Mononics from the shape such as the bones of
as many as the first expanding finger and waist. Because Mononics which had
been found in the past were imperfect, a lot of parts confirmed for the
first time this time are included. Especially, the number of tail vertebras
is assumed not to exceed 25 even if both of current Mononics 20 are presumed
a lot. It was confirmed that this the one was more than they or more ten. In
the research of the relation of bird and eating meat dinosaur's systems, the
number of tail vertebras is attached to importance. In general, it is said
that it is bird's system if the number is 25 or less. It can be guessed that
the number of tail vertebras of this individual is existence which is
obviously more than it, is nearer the eating meat dinosaur than the bird
from this.
Moreover, only in the fossil of the Mononics kind of hand which had been
found up to now, there was one big finger, and, besides, the finger had not
been found. This time, the 2nd and 3rd finger found for the first time : in
the one to deny that one Mononics were only fingers. It can be said that it
will be finding by which the origin of the name of Mononics is overturned.
An important point of this finding was to have a lot of tail vertebras which
were able to be called Mononics dinosaur's characteristic, and, in addition,
to have had three fingers in the arm. Moreover, the number of bones of the
second finger was three the same as the dinosaur. In a word, the feature
that a lot of existence of the tail vertebra and the number of bones of the
second finger are the same as the eating meat dinosaur is shown. It can be
said that the one to support the theory that Mononics are dinosaurs and this
finding is academically important.
It is scheduled to be introduced by 'Contoribushonzinsaiens (contribution in
the science)' of Los Angeles County Ta Natural History Museum of the issue
(Natural History Museum in Los Angeles County) in May, 2002 concerning this
research.
