New Pete Larson Book

Hey hey,
I received an interesting package in the mail today. Invisible Cities Press of
Vermont sent me an advanced review copy (for some of the magazines I write for)
of Pete Larson's new book on Sue. It has the wonderful title "Rex Appeal," and
looks really interesting, based on my superficial glances. I know one should
never judge a book by its cover, but the cover of this one-Pete standing
against a silhouette of a _Tyrannosaurus_-is pretty neat looking.

Larson actually wrote the majority of this book while in prison (in the
acknowledgements he thanks the judge who sentenced him for "allowing him time
to write." :-)) Overall it looks like a solid story of the Sue case told from
Pete's point of view. It should be a nice compliment to Steve Fiffer's book
(which I haven't read, but judging from some messages on list it may be a bit
biased). Larson's book also includes a lot of information on the science of
_Tyrannosaurus_ and other theropods, including passages on the gender debate,
bird evolution, forelimb use, etc. There is also a nice appendix with many of
the skeletal reconstructions that can be found in Larson's first book, "The Rex
Files."

This book is supposed to be due out in August. After I read it I will try to
remember to post to the list my feelings on the text. Overall, it looks pretty
good.

Steve
