They don't put them closer to other birds than to *Confuciusornis*, they get
them as the sister group to the only pygostylian they included in their
analysis, namely *Confuciusornis*. No need for secondarily long tails, or
for convergently short ones in *C.* and Ornithothoraces or whatever.
