Well, you've already omitted a bunch of outgroups on the sauropsid side, as I
pointed out in my
last post. So why not omit more?

I guess you could just leave in the "famous" (for non-mammlian synapsids!)
groups.

Synapsida
|--Caseasauria
`--Eupelycosauria
   |--Edaphosauridae
   `--Sphenacodontia
      |--Sphenacodontidae (incl. Dimetrodon)
      `--Therapsida
         |--Dinocephalia (incl. Moschops)
         `--+--Anomodontia (incl. Placerias)
            `--Cynodontia
               |--Cynognathidae (from WWD)
               `--Mammaliformes

This does neglect a couple dozen outgroups, but so does the sauropsid side.
That's why I think
it'd be better to make a diagram that admits that it is abridged, more like

Amniota
 Synapsida
  Therapsida
   Cynodontia
    Mammalia
 Sauropsida/Reptilia
  Anapsida
  Romeriida/Diapsida/Sauria
   ?Ichthyopterygia
   ?Sauropterygia
   Lepidosauria
   Archosauria
    Pseudosuchia
    Ornithodira
     Lagosuchus
     Pterosauria
     Dinosauria (prob. incl. Herrerasauridae)

Then it's just a framework, and not an attempt to explicitly render everything.
