Styxosaurus snowii (I know its not actually a dinosaur)
Hey all,
I've just completed a rough reconstruction of the head of the plesiosaur
_Styxosaurus snowii_. This is the first marine reptile I've tried to draw,
and as such, I have no doubt that it is rife with errors. Any comments or
criticism (or praise ;)) would be welcome (in fact, that's the whole point
of this e-mail). Two things, to head off stuff (doesn't make me right, just
pointing out that I know): I think it has too many teeth, and I placed the
nostrils dorsal to where the external nares were located (in a recess in the
side of the skull that appeared to be there, though may not be...). I based
this on the moral of Whitmer's paper, "The nostrils may not be where the
external nares are," and figured that it might make sense for the nostrils
of a plesiosaur to be located dorsally...but I'm probably completely wrong.
Please tell me so (or not, if that's the case)!!!
Thanks in advance, and I look forward to your comments.
Peace,
Rob
