Bozeman restaurants

Hi Gang,

Sorry, this message isn't about dinosaurs, but for the listers who are attending the conference.

I've gotten several requests for info on places to eat in Bozeman, so I thought I'd post to the list to help everyone out. Bear in mind that these are just my opinion and I invite anyone to add to the list. Here goes:

Good restaurants:

Santa Fe Reds - within walking distance of the Holiday Inn with Polla Wontons to die for!

Applebee's - also within walking distance of the Holiday Inn, but across a very busy road. Great drink specials though! ;)

McKenzie River Pizza - downtown, so not within walking distance to the hotel, but a 20 minute walk from campus. The Bobcat pizza is great.

O'Brien's - also downtown, but further away than McKenzie River, so I wouldn't suggest walking there. They have wonderful breakfast specials, but can be slightly pricy.

International Cafe - in the Emerson Art Building, not too far from campus. Truly excellent food and atmosphere. The prices are good too.

Burger Bob's - downtown not far from McKenzie River. Gotta love a place with a sign in the window saying "Sorry, We're Open"! The chicken sandwiches, onion rings and vanilla shakes are marvelous!

The Corral - in Big Sky (40 miles from Bozeman). I've never been there, but my friend says they have the best steak and seafood in Montana. She said that the price is right also.

Bobcat Grille, Lounge, Cafe (something like that) - in the lower level of the SUB. I always enjoyed their sandwiches, but they are usually extremely busy over lunch, so don't count of eating there.

There is also a chinese restaurant out by the mall that I liked. I'm not sure but it may have been called The Great Wall.

The Pickle Barrel - located right behind Johnstone Hall (the dorm where I lived), it has the biggest sandwiches for around $5 that you can get anywhere. Or if you'd rather have ice cream, for under $2 you can get a waffle cone so full that you can barely eat it.

I'd avoid:

The Bistro - way too expensive for what you get. Never been there myself since I was a poor college student while living there.

The Wok - my friend had an internship as a health inspector last semester and was appalled by the kitchen there. Go at your own risk.

Pizza Hut - (the one by campus) same as above.

Of course, if you're in the mood to drink, there is the Bar-muda triangle by campus. Three lively bars all within walking distance. The Molly Brown has a ton of pool tables, dart boards and lottery machines.

I'm sure there are more, but I can't seem to think of any at this moment.

I'd also like to mention that the museum is only technically on campus - it's actually a 10 or 15 minute walk from the SUB (where the talks are being held). I just wanted to give everyone a heads-up on that so on the first day they don't get there right before the talks start and then have to beat feet to make it on time.

I hope this helps. And I'd love to hear from other MSU alumni of where they suggest.

Have fun,

Patty
