With the observation that today all flying birds have strongly asymmetrical
wing feathers, and all flightless birds have (nearly) symmetrical ones.
Right?
Of course, the past is the key to the present and not necessarily vice
versa...
BTW, does someone have an idea about why the tails of *Caudipteryx* and
*Protarchaeopteryx* were so extremely short? I've seen Paul's reconstruction
in the SciAm book today... well, I knew it, but it's still flabbergasting.
