Neither of these groups are ancestral to the other, so the statement isn't
applicable.  If we use the old "closer to humans = more derived" standard,
coelocanths would actually be more derived, yet far less abundant or varied.
This is actually a counterexample to the commonly held belief that
"progressive" forms are more successful.
