Re: NEORNITHINE PHYLOGENY etc / Gondwanan groups
Despite Eric Lurio,
There are so very few cases of tinamous ever being considered
non-ratites that it is not worth bringing up ... however,
non-volant ratites far outnumber the three tinamous genera and
their species, a total of five species compared to the 9 moa
genera, some with more than two species like *Dinornis* and
*Euryapteryx*, the elephant bird and however many species I
forget were there (*Aepyornis*), three species of kiwi
(*Apteryx*) three species of rhea (*Rhea*), two or more of emu
(*Dromaios*), three of cassowary (*Casuarius*) and until very
recently, two of ostrich (*Struthio*) that even when not
counting the major extinct genera, still out-number the tinamou species.
