I'm an animator and would like your help
hello. i am your run of the mill dinosaur lover. i think they are neat
animals and loved them when i was a kid. i am a budding animator and am
doing a series of dinosaur animations for my demo reel. since i am no
paleontologist, I'm doing exhaustive research to get my animals to look
as correct as possible. i bought books by G. Paul (my favorite artist)
and some models from the best model line i could find...the Battat
(Boston museum) line. i made numerous sketches for reference in my
animation software. a lot of my dinosaurs look similar to the dinosaurs
in WWD (WWD is an absolutely beautiful job at modeling, texturing and
animating).
for now, i am starting to build a Tyrannosaurus Rex. I'm doing my best to
get him to be correct in all aspects. of course I'm sure it will be
impossible, because i am not a dinosaur expert. he is in the beginning
stage, a very roughed out low polygon model. i would love to get the
opinions of this list when i have a finished high resolution model, but i
know you can not post attachments. what would be the way i could do this
if at all?
the animation will consist of a basic walk cycle to work out the animals
gait as best i can. the final animation i want to have a spectacular
scene of a T rex couple ( i learned it is debated whether Rex was a lone
hunter or pack hunter...I'll chose to use a couple of T Rexes) weeding
out a sickly dinosaur in a panicked herd (probably a mix of maybe
Triceratops and Duckbills of some sort...i would think they might mix
like zebras and wildebeests). i wanted to do the scene similar to the
Allosaurus versus Diplodocus as seen in "Allosaurs A WWD special". could
a T Rex have the speed and stamina to sift through a herd of fleeing
dinosaurs in order to pick out the weakling??? I keep reading different
views of hunting techniques. any input would be helpful.
I don't want to get ahead of myself as i am just fleshing him out. I was
a little thrown back by what people think of all the dinosaur shows
coming out (WWD, WDRA). I was very impressed by WWD and (to a lesser
extent) WDRA. all of the animation and hard work i totally understand and
appreciate. animation is an EXTREMELY, EXTREMELY difficult (and
rewarding) thing to do. Not to mention matching CG to live action. It is
an incredibly difficult undertaking. So, if anybody on this list worked
on either of those, my hats off to you.
Anyway, I'm off to work more on my T Rex. I live close to ILM and hope to
one day be hired by them so i can work on JP 4!!!
So, thank you for any help or opinions.
Angie
