Re: Spinosaurus weight

What is the estimated weight of Spinosaurus aegyptiacus? I've heard 4 tons, 6 tons, and 8 tons (from JP Institute Dinosaur Field Guide)

As I said before (http://www.cmnh.org/fun/dinosaur-archive/2001Jul/msg00619.html), the holotype of Spinosaurus was about 17.4 meters long.  Using this length to estimate the mass based on Paul's (1988) estimates for related species (Ceratosaurus, Piatnitzkysaurus, Eustreptospondylus, Yangchuanosaurus), gives masses from twelve to nineteen tons.  Much larger than any estimates you listed.  Still, it is lighter than a hypothetical 17.4 meter long Tyrannosaurus (25 tons).  Baryonyx's and Suchomimus' holotypes would weigh in at 1.7-2.7 and 2.9-4.8 tons respectively.
