Mosasaurs in Dinosaur DVD
To those of you who wondered if the deleted mosasaur scenes were in the
Dinosaur DVD, I'd have to say yes. In the Collector's Edition 2-disc
set,the one with the eyeball on the cover, on the second making-of disc
there is a story-boarded scene of this scequence we called "the river
crossing". The mosasaurs are replaced by crocodiles though, our fight
to turn them into mosasaurs happened much later. There is no animation
though, just drawn boards. I am possitive that in the character design
section, there are some drawings by yours truly of the mosasaurs. I'm
also sure that there is a final rendered CG model of the mosasaur on the
second disc somewhere. There may be an animated "SWIM TEST" , but I'm
not sure. There is a whole lot of extra stuff on the disc that I
haven't even gotten around to looking at!
If anyone is still interested I can look through it and tell you how
to get to the images.
Another interesting note for dino-movie-geeks, we wanted the mosasaurs
in there so badly, that we tried to get one into the last shot of the
film, where the camera does that huge pull back shot of the happy
valley. It was supposed to breech out of the water like a killer whale,
and end the movie with a splash. But alas, it was canned. I think
maybe Eisner was a Hesperornis in another life..
