In regards to land-based mosasaurs in the movies, I had always supposed
that the enigmatic serpentine creature that menaces the humans in "King
Kong" (when they are falling into the chasm after Kong breaks the giant
log) might be some attempt at a terrestrial pythonomorph. The only other
thing I could think of it being would be a giant amphisbaenian, but the
caudal morphology is not consistent with that.
