Flamingoes & Grebes Sister Speces?

Two independent studies just published -- using two very different
approaches --  reportedly show grebes are flamingoes' closest relatives:

    With this in mind, one might wonder whether dinosaurs of greatly varying
appearance (and skeletal structure) could be more closely related than it
might at first seem.  Lets hear some educated comments after this article
and (where possible) the published papers have been studied by list members.
