Jurassic Park Institute Dinosaur Field Guide
I bought _Jurassic Park Institute Dinosaur Field Guide_ by Dr. Thomas R.
Holtz, Jr. and Dr. Michael Brett-Surman (Random House - $10.99 US - ISBN
0-375-81293-8) today. What an impressive little book, with commentary and
fun-facts on 100 dinosaurs and non-dinosaurs, accompanied by Bob Walters'
beautiful artwork. Also included are an explanation of the age of dinosaurs,
plant life, fossil digs, preparation, classification and naming, how to draw
dinosaurs, and a cool fold-out poster. The raised illustrations on the cover
are also a nice touch :-).
I was pleased to see Tom's _Tyrannosaurus rex_ section and laughed that _T.
rex_ had neither friends nor enemies. (It also rated a two-page spread.)
Many/most of the new dinosaurs are included, feathers and all, in this
absolutely up-to-date 160 page fun and scientific read. The dinosaur list
makes a special guest appearance (the "So you want to be a paleontologist"
FAQ website).
Robust congratulations to dino list members Tom Holtz and Mike Brett-Surman
on this excellent publication.
