Re: Crest or Horn? was RE: Ornitholestes

This question brings up another one: when is something a crest and when is
it a horn? Do _Ceratosaurus_, _Allosaurus_, _Proceratosaurus_, and
_Carnotaurinae_ have horns or do they have crests? What are the criteria?

i think it's mostly after quick definitions (horns over brow and snout, the rest, well, ... crest!)

But if you ask _me_ for a definition, I'd say that a horn has at least a cone base, or a broad rather rounded base, while the 'rest' is a crest.
