Safe conclusion. What's left?
Even 1.6 billion years ago rain did not fall up.
And the horizontal rains left no tracks.
(Think this actually means that the rain must have fallen both
vertically and at an angle to produce the 2 kinds of spatter
patterns.)
Your example also might have an explanation:

was
infrequent.>
Assuming that the imprints must have sat around undisturbed for
a long time. However, the ground might have hardened and covered
rapidly. Why not?
