NEW MORRISON ELAPHROSAUR etc
The following just in...
Chure, D. J. 2001. The second record of the African theropod
_Elaphrosaurus_ (Dinosauria, Ceratosauria) from the Western
Hemisphere. _N. Jb. Geol. Palaont. Monatshefte_ 2001, 565-576.
Proximal right tibia from Garden Park closely matches
_Elaphrosaurus_ in the shape of its cnemial and fibular crests and is
referred to this genus. Clearly differs from the other Morrison
theropod from which tibiae are known.
RE: the possible dromaeosaurine tooth from Denmark that Neils
Bonde has recently announced (Pal. Ass. Newsletter 48, abstracts), I
don't know if they have eliminated _Eotyrannus_ as this has somewhat
_Dromaeosaurus_-like premax teeth (lacks any lingual twist of its
carinae though). However, I did speak about this a while back with Per
Christiansen... it seems that the tooth really is from a dromaeosaurine
(i.e., specifically closer to _Dromaeosaurus_ than anything else).
RE: Wall to Wall TV series 'Extinct'... the first episode on the dodo is
fun but with some notable errors (despite concerted efforts by our own
Julian Hume, the featured expert in the episode) - the thing about pigs
being the main destructive force is probably nonsense and look out for
the _Achatina_ (not present on Mauritius in the 1600s). The constant
suggestion that dodos were not known to be pigeons until this year is
also irksome. The worst episode (IMHO) is the mammoth one. The
thylacine one is pretty good - I tried to get the animators to change the
gait of the running thylacine as what they have done is just not
thylacine-like, but it was too late.
Another new _Myotis_ from Europe? How many more???
