There was an interesting thread a few months ago on the question of whether
or not the second toe of Archeopteryx was hyperextendable. Workers such as
Gauthier (1986) and Paul (1988) say yes, while Elzanowski and Pasko (1999)
apparently (I haven't read that paper yet) say no.

I've heard that there is more work going on on that question and I wonder if
anyone has a reference to more recent work or has anything further they can
share on that question.
