Function of saurishian pneumacity
Hello again people, i've been offline for a while and
probably will be for another month or 2. Before I
depart, i'd like to pose a question. Could the air
sacs of saurischians serve some purpose such as using
the pressures during respiration to drive blood down
the long necks of sauropods, or function as a sort of
diaphragm in theropods? Perhaps driven by a
muscle-powered ventral cuirasse (abdominal basket,
gastralia, big bunch of belly ribs, etc etc)? My lack
of knowledge in soft anatomy prevents me from
clarifying.... maybe someone else could envision such
a system? I'll check back in a few days to read your
response(s). C yuz
P.S. Does ANYONE know the names of the processes that
interlock gastralia? And is it the "intracoustic
recess" or "interacoustic recess"?....why can't we all
just use the same anatomical terms?!!?
